Madrid Airport to the Centre: Every Option, Priced

Cercanías, metro, the 24-hour bus and the €33 flat taxi — exact costs, times and which to pick with luggage, at night, or on a budget.

The four options

Cercanías C-1 (from T4 only): direct to Chamartín, Nuevos Ministerios and Atocha in ~25 minutes, ~€2.60, trains every 30 minutes — the calm choice with luggage if you land at T4 and sleep near Sol/Huertas/Lavapiés (Atocha end). Metro L8 (all terminals): 12 minutes to Nuevos Ministerios, then transfer; €3 airport supplement on top of the fare; fastest to Chamberí/Salamanca. Exprés bus: 24 hours a day, €5, ~40 minutes to Cibeles (stops at O’Donnell and Atocha by day) — the night-arrival default and the Gran Vía choice. Taxi: flat €33 to anywhere inside the M-30, ~25–35 minutes; VTC apps usually a few euros less.

Decision rules

Landing T4 + staying near Atocha/Sol → Cercanías. Landing T1–T3 → bus or metro (the C-1 doesn’t serve those terminals without the airport shuttle). Arriving 00:00–06:00 → Exprés bus or taxi, no exceptions — the rails sleep. Party of three with bags → the €33 taxi beats everything per head. And buy the Multi card at the airport machine regardless; you’ll use it all week.

Questions, answered

Is the T4 Cercanías hard to find?
Follow the train icons down from arrivals — it’s a 5-minute signed walk. Buy the ticket at the machine (or use the Multi card with the airport supplement loaded).
Do taxis take cards?
Yes, obligatorily — and the €33 flat rate is posted on the window. If a driver proposes anything else to the centre, decline and take the next one.
