Why stay in La Latina
La Latina — La Latina / El Rastro
La Latina is the oldest surviving quarter of Madrid. Narrow cobblestone streets run between Moorish-era walls, ending at plazas where locals have been drinking vermouth on Sunday mornings for generations. El Rastro — Europe's most famous flea market — fills the streets every Sunday.
Hoteles here are excellent value: you're walking distance from the Royal Palace (8 min), Sol (10 min), and the Prado (20 min), but paying significantly less than in those areas. The neighbourhood shuts down late — the tapas bars on Calle Cava Baja don't get going until 9pm.
- Royal Palace — 8 min
- Puerta del Sol — 10 min
- El Rastro market — 5 min (Sundays)
- Prado Museum — 20 min
