Spring in Madrid (March–May)
Spring is Madrid's finest season. March brings the first warm days (12-18°C), April is reliable (16-22°C, occasional rain), and May is stunning — roses in the Retiro, San Isidro festival, and temperatures that make the whole city want to be outside. Hotel prices are mid-range: higher than January-February but lower than July-August.
San Isidro Festival (May 15±)
Madrid's main patronal festival. A week of free events, traditional dress (chulapos and chulapas), chotis dancing in the streets, and the bullfighting season opener at Las Ventas. Book hotels 2-3 months ahead.
Retiro rose garden (Rosaleda)
Free. 4,000+ roses in flower from late May to mid-June. One of the most beautiful sights in Madrid — and almost unknown to tourists.
Semana Santa (Easter)
Holy Week processions in central Madrid. Some businesses close Good Friday and Easter Monday. Book ahead — Easter is popular with Spanish domestic tourism.
The cherry blossoms in Quinta de los Molinos park (Metro Suanzes, L5) peak in February-March — 1,500 almond and cherry trees, free entry, incredibly photogenic, almost tourist-free.
