New Year's Eve in Madrid is the most challenging hotel booking in the city's calendar. Hotels within 2km of Sol sell out 6-9 months ahead for December 31 nights. Prices run 3-5× normal rates for December 31 (often combined with a December 30 minimum stay). Book as soon as you know your dates — there is no last-minute availability.
Smart alternative: Book December 30 and stay through January 1. Prices on Dec 30 and Jan 1 are significantly lower — the premium is specifically for the Dec 31 night. You get full participation in Nochevieja at the Sol countdown, but save money on surrounding nights.
