Route

Starts near Palacio de Cibeles (Prado area), loops through central Madrid, finishes near El Retiro Park. Mostly flat — some gradual inclines on Castellana.

Marathon Expo

2 days before race at IFEMA (Metro L8, Campo de las Naciones). Bib collection, race merchandise, exhibitors. Plan 2-3 hours. Essential — no Expo, no bib.

Race start

08:30 approximately. Metro runs extra early services. Staged starts by expected finish time.

Finish area

Near El Retiro Park. Bag drop at start, collect at finish. Multiple baggage trucks.

Half marathon

Also run at Madrid Marathon — separate category, same day, different start wave.

Booking timeline

Book 4-6 months ahead. April is busy in Madrid independent of the marathon.

Best Hoteles for Marathon Participants

Near Retiro/Atocha (best option): Walking access to the finish line, good Metro connections (L1, L3) to the start area near Cibeles. Jerónimojs barrio (between Retiro and Prado) is ideal — quiet streets, good restaurants for carb-loading, and 10 minutes' walk to both the marathon finish and the Prado.

Near Nuevos Ministerios (practical for Expo): Direct Metro L8 to IFEMA for Expo collection. L10 or bus to race start. Good if you're arriving the day before and need to do Expo then rest.

Carb-loading restaurants

La Latina has excellent pasta and Mediterranean options. Barrio de las Letras for good Italian. Chamberí for neighbourhood trattorias.

Recovery day (post-race)

Book check-out for Monday. Retiro Park Sunday afternoon walk after the race is practically obligatory. La Latina lunch at 14:00.

Post-race transport

Metro L9 from Retiro to anywhere. Taxi from finish area: €8-12 to most central hotels.
