Hoteles with Rooftop in Madrid: The Summer Priority

Rooftop terraces — azoteas — are Madrid's defining summer social space. The city's layout and flat roof culture means almost every neighbourhood has one worth visiting. But hotel rooftops specifically vary enormously: some are hotel-only, some are open to the public, some require a drink minimum. Here's the honest guide.

Top Hotel Rooftops in Madrid

Riu Gran Vía (open to public)

One of the most spectacular views in the city. Public access — no hotel booking required. Pay for drinks. Gran Vía-facing sunset views.

Room Mate Óscar — Chueca

Pool terrace and rooftop bar. Hotel guests priority but often walkable in during quieter periods. Best for LGBTQ+ friendly atmosphere.

Iberostar Las Letras

Only YOU Boutique Hotel

Two properties in Madrid (Atocha and Orense). Rooftop pools and bars, mainly hotel guests.

NH Collection Palacio de Tepa

Barrio de las Letras. Small rooftop terrace, more intimate than the major properties.

Hotel Vincci Soho

South of Sol, near Huertas. Rooftop bar open in summer, mix of hotel guests and public.

Best Public Rooftop Options (Non-Hotel)

For the best views without booking a hotel, the Azotea del Círculo de Bellas Artes (€5 entry, no drink minimum, 360° views) is the undisputed leader. The Palacio de Cibeles rooftop (Ayuntamiento building) is free Tuesday-Sunday and gives views of Cibeles and the Castellana. Both are walkable from Sol and Banco de España Metro.

Summer timing: Hotel and public rooftops fill fast on summer evenings. By 20:30 in July-August, most are at capacity. Either book ahead (some rooftops accept reservations) or arrive before 20:00 to secure a spot.

Worth Paying Extra for a Rooftop Hotel?

In July-August: yes, if you'll actually use it daily. A rooftop hotel adds typically €20-40/night over a comparable non-rooftop property. Spread over a 5-night stay: €100-200 extra for effectively having a private summer evening destination every night.

Off-season: probably not. Rooftops typically close October-April. The premium isn't worth it if the terrace is closed.
